Each year, in conjunction with the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) the Geiger Gibson Program in Community Health honors Emerging Leaders working at community and farmworker health centers, health center networks, or state and regional primary care associations for their achievements in and on behalf of their communities. For the first time since 2019, we were delighted to host an in-person ceremony at the NACHC Policy and Issues Forum in Washington D.C. to celebrate a new cohort of young colleagues. Fourteen awardees from across the country were recognized with the Emerging Leader distinction for their accomplishments and dedication to advancing the health center mission. These rising stars - administrators, clinicians, front-line managers, lawyers, care managers and other professionals - reflect the extraordinary talent in the health center movement, now the nation’s single largest, and most effective, primary health care system for medically underserved communities, serving more than 30 million people. The emerging leaders were nominated by their organizations and were selected from a very competitive field by senior health center leadership who serve as Distinguished Visitors, leaders in the health center movement who have made vast contributions to health centers and medically underserved communities throughout their careers and who help advise and guide the Geiger Gibson Program.
We are so pleased to announce that Joseph E. Pierle will join the ranks of Geiger Gibson Program Distinguished Visitors as our next Visitor. A native Missourian, Joe has served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Missouri Primary Care Association since 1999. Prior to this appointment at MPCA, Joe worked for United States Senator Christopher S. Bond in Washington D.C., serving as an advisor on issues concerning health, children, the elderly, and veterans. He is an extraordinary champion for Missouri’s community health centers and an effective voice for the medically underserved in his home state and nationally.
It's the people who make the movement, and we are so proud of the extraordinary people who are our colleagues and friends advancing community health care.
