A new report finds that nearly 1.34 million uninsured community health center patients would gain health coverage in 2022 under the Build Back Better act now pending in Congress.
The report notes that the share of uninsured community health center patients has declined over the past decade due to recent reforms including the Affordable Care Act. At the same time, some 6.2 million community health center patients are currently without health insurance. The report also highlights the fact that the lack of insurance is much higher in states that did not expand Medicaid.
Of the approximately 1.34 million health center patients who will gain coverage under the Build Better act more than half live in the 12 states that have not expanded Medicaid. The new report includes a state by state breakdown of the number of patients expected to gain coverage under the legislation.
The analysis was conducted by the Geiger Gibson/RCHN Community Health Foundation Research Collaborative based at the GW Milken Institute School of Public Health. The research was supported by the RCHN Community Health Foundation.
