A new data note from the Geiger Gibson/ RCHN Community Health Foundation Research Collaborative shows the adult community health center population that is at risk of losing Medicaid coverage under pending federal policy changes. Using 2023 UDS data, it shows that nationally, 9 million Medicaid health center patients are at-risk adults. In 22 states, the at-risk population exceeds 100,000 people. The data note also shows that of this group, 5.3 million adults face risk because they are part of the ACA Medicaid expansion population and could lose their coverage if Congress ends enhanced federal funding for the ACA expansion population.
These 9 million at-risk adult patients represented $6.7 billion in CHC revenue nationally in 2023. The loss of Medicaid coverage would compromise essential access to care in the communities served by health centers and affect health center capacity
