In a blog for Health Affairs, the authors discuss findings of a study on the role of Medicaid managed care in reproductive health, including family planning services, and implications in the wake of Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization. The study included in-depth review of the standard managed care contracts used by states that employ comprehensive managed care as part of their Medicaid program, as well as discussions with leaders within state agencies, health plans, and family planning providers including both community health centers and independent providers. They conclude that Medicaid financing and program performance will become central to any effort to avert the health consequences of unplanned, unwanted pregnancies.
